Good Luck and thank you, Steve
This month, we say goodbye to one of our long-serving and hard-working market officers, Stephen Gerraty. After 17 years of dedicated service Stephen is moving on to pastures new.
Along with our popular traders, stalls, and events, we have a dedicated team of market officers who ensure that every visitor has an enjoyable and carefree experience.
Stephen joined the Preston Markets team in April 2007 after a varied career in retail management. Beginning in the mid-1980s, Stephen has worked for Marks and Spencer, C&A and TK Maxx, including a stint in and around central London, in the mid 1990s.
Reflecting on his time, Stephen said:
"It's very difficult to pinpoint a favourite memory but there have certainly been many interesting moments over the years, I sometimes wish I had kept a diary.
"The transition from the old market to the new Market Hall was a challenging period to say the least. Locking up the old Market Hall after the final day of business in 2018 was an unusual feeling, knowing it was the end of an era. It certainly feels like that now being the last of the team from the old market to leave.
"My plan now is to spend a few more years back in retail, to keep me busy."
Mark Beck, Markets Manager, added:
"I wish Stephen the best of luck going forward. It has been a pleasure working with him over the past two years, his knowledge and years of experience have been priceless. Steve has been an unwavering presence at Preston Markets for many years, I know that he will be missed by traders customers and colleagues alike"
At the heart of Preston, our Market Hall is a vibrant hub of local businesses, bringing fresh, local produce to the city centre, daily.
